~Anti- Lilly I confess~

Since Make Mine a Mojito was the brave one out of all the blogs I read to admit that she is not a Lilly Pulitzer fan I have to come out and admit this too.

Full disclosure and to be honest I can't stand Lilly!!

Maybe because I didn't grow up in the South, or this is what I tell myself. When I see grown women wearing Lilly I just think they look like they are wearing little girl's clothing or like they belong in the Stepford Wifes. Little girl's in Lilly is very cute, all the bright colors, and animal prints (not my kind of animal prints like zebra and leopard) more like pink and green elephants which scare me as they are juvenile. fitting. My Lilly dislike also flows over to my dislike of Vera Bradley bags. Again I feel they mostly look very young and resemble diaper bags.

If you have been reading my blog you know my taste is much more along the lines of Banana Republic, J. Crew, Ann Taylor Loft, Gap. My style could be described as classical trendy if there is such a description.

Please don't be mad or leave me mean comments this is only my opinion. Thank You Mrs. Mojito for being the first, you are not alone.

I totally agree on the Lilly thing - I just don't get it. It's waay to clashy/matchy for me. Ick.

Although I have to admit that I have a few Vera Bradley totes... I don't love all the pattens, but they are really practical for me right now. Maybe I'll grow out of it...

hee hee... the confessions are so much fun! we've all been in the closet about our hate for lilly! :) i did grow up in the south and love some southern things, but i don't love the whole south beach, super tan, symbols embroidered on your hot pink pants, and lime green tops thing. i don't even think it's southern. i know a lot of non-southerners that love lilly, too. so weird.

i don't like vera bradley bags AT ALL. that's a whole other post, sister!

pat on the back for your honesty! :)

I like Lilly but don't understand the obsession. I also agree about grown women wearing the elephant prints. I don't get that at all. Maybe geography also has something to do with it? I'm in S. FL now and Lilly is perfect for here. I mean, people paint their homes in bright Lilly-esque colors (NOT me). But, when I was in NC it wasn't as popular even though I was living in the "real" South as opposed to what I call the fake South now (FL). :)

P.S. - I have never owned a Vera bag and never will. Spot on with the diaper bag description. Actually, I have a chic black diaper bag! LOL

You know, until I joined the blog world, I had never even heard of this Lilly lady and her brightly colored clothing. If I wore something like that up here in Wisconsin, I'm pretty sure I get made fun of for raiding my Grandma's we-spend-our-winters-in-Florida wardrobe!

I like the look of lily - they're pretty but i agree with you about grown women wearing those bright colors like it's spring time all year round (a southern thing maybe?) not only that but $300 for a shift dress?!?! EEK! I can get a shift dress for $100 from jcrew that's just as nice.

I tried to appreciate it but really i think it's just a style for upper class southern women. Kudos for going against the grain!!

I have to say I totally agree with you! I'd either feel like a little girl, or an elderly woman in florida!! Esp. Vera Bradley...

I completely agree! I love allthe brands you listed, althought I do love my Vera. Sometimes after lugging a leather tote, it nice to have something light!
